1. No personal information is used by DoubleClick to deliver Internet ads.
DoubleClick does not use your name, address, email address, or phone number to deliver Internet ads. DoubleClick does use information about your browser and Web surfing to determine which ads to show your browser.
2. You can control the technologies used to collect information during ad serving.
3. You can control the email you receive.
Before companies can use DoubleClick DARTmail technology to send email, that company must commit to us that consumers have agreed to receive suh email messages.
4. DoubleClick encourages all companies with which we do business to engage in fair information practices.
DoubleClick asks that these companies disclose their relationship with us by providing notice to consumers about the DoubleClick technologies that they use.
(A) DoubleClick as a technology service provider:
In most cases, when you see an Internet ad, DoubleClick has been asked by the website to act as an agent for ad delivery, reporting or analysis of usage at their website. The information DoubleClick processes on such a website's behalf belongs to that website and is not further used by DoubleClick. DoubleClick does not own the information collected and cannot use it for its own business purposes or in any way not authorized by our client.
(B) Websites that share information with DoubleClick that will be used to determine your preferences for future ad serving:
When websites contract with DoubleClick to share anonymous website data to develop marketing scores for future ad serving across the Internet, those websites must comply with the Network Advertising Initiative guidelines (visit www.networkadvertising.org). Only websites in the United States share information with DoubleClick for the creation of marketing scores in this manner. DoubleClick does not develop marketing scores that indicate a user's individual health condition, detailed financial information, sexual orientation or behavior, information that appears to relate to children under 13, racial and ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical opinions, and trade union membership.
5. The promises we make about information you give us online should be upheld.
DoubleClick may change its policy as new products are added or old ones are changed, but DoubleClick treats information it owns in a manner consistent with the policy under which it was collected, unless we have your consent to use it differently. If part or all of DoubleClick's businesses are sold or transferred, we will take steps to assure that these same principles apply.
6. You shouldn't just have to take our word for it.
DoubleClick is a member of the Network Advertising Initiative and has been reviewed for compliance with NAI principles. We also engaged a nationally recognized independent accounting firm to examine our specific assertions about the internal controls we maintain over the privacy, security and data integrity of our DART ad-serving product. These assertions were created to affirm our compliance with DoubleClick's Agreement with the Attorneys General of the States of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Vermont, and Washington, and the consolidated Settlement Agreement and Release in the actions entitled In re DoubleClick Inc. Privacy Litigation, No. 00-CIV-0641 (NRB) (United States District Court for the Southern District of New York); In re DoubleClick Inc. Cases, J.C.C.P. No. 4120 (Superior Court of California, County of Marin); and Notargiacomo v. DoubleClick Inc., Cause No. 2000-03-1182-D (District Court of Cameron County, 103rd Judicial District, State of Texas). The accounting firm found that our controls were adequate to satisfy the criteria for the assertions.
