AMD Athlon Processor System Power Supplies - Have To Boot Twice
Having the power supply memory not compatible with AMD approved standards many cause problems.
Due to the established infrastructure for AMD processors and power requirements for the AMD Athlon processors, AMD recommends using industry standard power supplies to meet the requirements of a wide range of desktop configurations. However, not all configurations require the same power support. OEMs, system integrators, and end-users should choose a power supply that adequately satisfies the power requirements of the system configuration with all system components combined.
AMD Athlon processor-based systems utilize the industry standard ATX/ATX12V power supply specifications.
Some of the design rules that standard ATX/ATX12V power supplies should adhere to are:
• Electrical (typical power distributions, timing requirements, efficiency, output protection, etc.)
• Mechanical (physical dimensions, airflow)
• Electromagnetic compatibility (EMI)
• Reliability and safety
These power supplies are similar to existing ATX/ATX12V power supplies but should not be limited to that form factor. Vendors are encouraged to use existing off-the-shelf power supplies. OEMs, system integrators, and end users should determine power supply requirements based on system configurations and usage. Key items to consider are cost, power requirements, and size. The end user must ensure that the power supply meets the OEM's specifications. Contact the OEM for further information.
