What Is Exit Code 65

What Does Exit Code Of (65) Mean In The Windows Task Scheduler Log File

Situation

When you open the Windows Task Scheduler log file, you see entries that end with the line "Result: The task completed with an exit code of (65)." You want to know what this means.

Solution

The Ndetect.exe file is a component of Automatic LiveUpdate, and it is run as a scheduled task. When the scheduled task is run and then completed, the Symantec product for which it is run returns a binary code value, which is then translated into a decimal value, returning the exit code 65. This code means that the Symantec Netdetect (Ndetect.exe) successfully connected to the Symantec update server.

For example, you will see entries similar to the following. These are all normal and expected:

"Symantec NetDetect.job" (NDETECT.EXE)
Finished 10/23/00 3:05:00 PM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (65).
"Symantec NetDetect.job" (NDETECT.EXE)
Started 10/23/00 7:05:00 PM
"Symantec NetDetect.job" (NDETECT.EXE)
Finished 10/23/00 7:05:00 PM
Result: The task completed with an exit code of (65).
